Whole-Person Healing: Inside the Bolger Short-Term Rehab Experience

Whole-Person Healing: Inside the Bolger Short-Term Rehab Experience

If you are need of post-acute care following a surgery, an illness, or an injury, the process can be overwhelming. Working with rehabilitation therapists to heal your body is only one step in your recovery journey. At Bolger Short-Term Rehab, we believe in a holistic approach to care – nurturing your mind, body, and spirit to promote your complete rehabilitation and individualizing your care to ensure your unique needs are met. Our priority is to make you feel as safe, comfortable, and welcome as you would right in your own home.

Personalized Treatment and Collaborative Care

Many rehab centers have therapists assisting multiple clients at once or even have therapy techs overseeing preplanned exercise programs without the necessary skills to make subtle adjustments to ensure your progress. We always have an actual licensed therapist working individually with you, as well as collaborating with a team of primary care physicians, nurses, specialists, social workers, dieticians, and activities professionals. This way, each aspect of your healing is addressed in your thoroughly personalized treatment plan, which improves your recovery and ensures continuity of care.

“As a patient I thank the entire team for their well-coordinated effort,” said former rehab patient Bob Larson. “This group of professionals all led to my ability to return to my home.”

Stimulating Activities

Staying socially active and engaged during your rehab stay not only supports your physical healing – it effectively boosts your mental wellness and overall mood, which enhances your recovery.

Aside from your rehab therapy each day, you will have the chance to participate in a diverse range of programs and events, including live entertainment and concerts, stimulating brain games and trivia, festive holiday-themed gatherings, baking presentations and crafting programs, bingo, movies, and more! Friendly volunteers and therapy dogs also visit frequently to socialize with and provide comfort to patients.

Because of the engaging environment and community connection, many patients make meaningful friendships as they heal. Michael, a rehab patient who also volunteers at the center, developed bonds with many of his fellow patients during his stay. “My experience was terrific,” he said. “I got to know a lot of people here, who I get to enjoy seeing every week now!”

Spiritual Healing

When you’re working hard to regain your physical strength, it’s important to nourish your spiritual needs, as well. While you are a patient in our rehab program, a chaplain will be available to offer spiritual guidance to you and your family, support you on your healing journey, and provide a safe place to express your thoughts, needs, and concerns. We also offer worship services, rosary, and other spiritual programs so that you can continue practicing your faith as you recover.

You will also have a licensed social work on your care team to address your psychosocial needs, connect you with helpful resources after your discharge, and ensure you are emotionally supported and well during your stay. Your social worker’s goal is to be your and your loved ones’ advocate through every step of your care.

Delicious Dining

We believe that good food is the foundation of good health. That’s why our patients enjoy three delicious, restaurant-style meals each day in a warm, communal dining space designed for comfort and connection.

Our dedicated dining team carefully crafts every menu to ensure meals are both satisfying and nutritious, always going the extra mile to meet individual dietary needs and make patients feel at home.

Mealtimes are more than just food – they're also a chance for patients to connect, socialize, and support each other on the road to recovery. Families are also always welcome to join their loved one for a meal.

Our Patient- and Family-Centered Approach

Our mission is to deliver compassionate care to the whole person – and that includes fostering a partnership with family and loved ones, too. As we work hard to ensure your physical, mental, and spiritual needs are met and nurtured, we also openly and regularly communicate with your loved ones, provide updates on progress, discuss treatment, and develop your plan of care – together.

Your loved ones are also welcomed and encouraged to visit. Sofia Sembos, daughter of a former rehab patient, was impressed with how supportive our team was of her involvement in her dad’s treatment.

“They were so happy when we came,” she said. “Everybody was very receptive to us. We were welcome to get him up, move him, eat with him, and encourage him. Nobody curtailed our efforts.”
