What to Look for in an Outpatient Rehab

What to Look for in an Outpatient Rehab

If you need physical, occupational, or speech therapy following an injury or surgery or because of an illness or other health condition, outpatient rehab can help you successfully recover and get back to wellness. However, when choosing an outpatient rehab center, there are many important factors to consider to ensure you receive the most-effective treatment in a safe and supportive environment.

Accessibility

No one likes to sit in a waiting area for an extended period before every appointment. Many clinics overbook clients, resulting in long, frustrating waits. At Christian Health Outpatient Rehab, we book only one client per time slot, so wait times are very minimal and our clients are seen promptly for their convenience.

Experience of Therapists

The experience and expertise of your therapist is a highly important factor to consider when choosing an outpatient rehab center for your treatment. Therapists should not only be properly licensed but well-versed and knowledgeable in their field. “Our therapists have multiple years of experience in a variety of specialized areas, including sports medicine, neurological, orthopedic, and cardiopulmonary for medically complex patients,” said Erica LaGruth, Director of Rehabilitation Services at Christian Health.

State-of-the-Art Technology

When providing therapy services, the use of various modalities can help clients achieve better results. We not only use things like electrostimulation and ultrasound for pain management, improving flexibility and range of motion, and swelling relief, but also state-of-the-art, innovative approaches to support our clients. Our VST Balance machine, which uses an infrared camera to track body movements during activities, allows us to do thorough assessments on clients to give us immediate detailed information about their walking patterns, balance deficit, and strength and conditioning. “It provides us with concrete data, especially for people at high risk for falls,” said Erica. “It lets us know if one side of the body is weaker than the other or if there’s asymmetry in walking patterns so that we can really target our treatment to the issues that may be difficult to see with the naked eye.”

One-on-One Treatment with a Licensed Therapist

Many clinics may have therapists overseeing multiple clients at once, meaning you don’t get the personalized attention you’d receive from one-on-one treatment, or even have therapy techs overseeing preplanned exercise programs without the necessary skill to make subtle adjustments when needed. We ensure an actual licensed therapist is working individually with our clients at all times. “The therapist is always with their patient and supervising the exercise programs for optimal skilled care,” said Erica.

Safety

A safe, clean environment is essential in any health care setting. We take infection control very seriously and follow strict policies and cleanliness standards, such as consistently sanitizing equipment, to ensure our clients stay healthy.
