Christian Health Volunteer Ruth Wynbeek Named HCANJ Volunteer of the Year

WYCKOFF, NJ (October 30, 2026) — Christian Health volunteer Ruth Wynbeek has been named the 2026 Volunteer of the Year by the Health Care Association of New Jersey (HCANJ), an award that recognizes an individual or a group whose contributions have significantly enhanced the quality of life of long-term care residents.

Wynbeek began volunteering at Christian Health in 1987, serving the organization’s mission to provide residents comfort, reassurance, and peace during difficult times. Through her volunteer work, she supports residents with one-on-one conversations, friendly visits, and her music. Wynbeek plays familiar hymns and songs on the organ to bring residents together and create opportunities for singing, reminiscing, and social interaction. She also plays for worship services and provides music for special and memorial services.

“Ruth’s nearly 40 years of service reflect a sustained commitment to the people who call Christian Health home,” said Sue Kelly, Vice President of Development and Foundation at Christian Health. “Through personal visits, music, worship, and her continued presence in residents’ lives, she helps foster connection and a sense of belonging. We are pleased to see her recognized for the time, care, and dedication she has given to this community.”

In addition to her direct work with residents, Wynbeek has contributed significantly to Christian Health’s organizational leadership. She served on the organization’s board of trustees and helped establish the Christian Health Foundation in 1999. The Foundation supports Christian Health through philanthropic gifts for capital campaigns, expansions, and specialized patient programs.

Wynbeek’s recognition highlights her consistent involvement and her support for Christian Health team members and other volunteers through her acts of kindness. Others in the organization say her example encourages and inspires them to step forward and serve those in long-term care with compassion, patience, and purpose.

The award was presented on October 27, during a ceremony in the Avalon Ballroom at Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City.
