Hillcrest Resident Michael Campisi Turns 100

Hillcrest Resident Michael Campisi Turns 100

Michael Campisi, Hillcrest Resident and World War II Veteran Michael Campisi, a resident of Hillcrest, a Christian Health community, turned 100 years old on Thursday, September 11, 2025. A surprise party was held at the community on Wednesday, September 10, to mark the occasion.

Michael, a Hillcrest resident since October 2022, is known by everyone in the community for his engaging personality. “He is a character for sure,” said Mary Mariconda, Director of Hillcrest. “Michael called us himself at age 97, researching senior living options. He was thoughtful and asked all the right questions – clearly determined to find the right fit for himself.”

Since moving to Hillcrest, Michael has become a fixture in the community, known for his love of conversation, music, dancing, and interest in the stock market. During Hillcrest’s 2025 prom in collaboration with Ramapo High School’s Interact Club, Michael barely sat down, dancing the night away.

“Since he turned 99, we've been counting down to this celebration,” said Mariconda. “We are excited to honor him.”

A proud veteran, Michael Campisi was born on September 11, 1925, in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn. After graduating from Bushwick High School, he was drafted into the U.S. Navy and served from February 1944 to June 1946 during World War II, rising to the rank of Second-Class Petty Officer.

Following his military service, Michael earned a Bachelor of Business degree from St. John’s University. His career included roles as a public accountant, auditor for the U.S. General Accounting Office, and eventually as the founder of Campisi Real Estate.

“He and my mother, his beloved wife, Joan, traveled extensively,” said Michael’s daughter, Loretta Keller. “After she passed in 1991, he wrote his first book, ‘Legacy of Love’ – a tribute to her and their life together.”

Michael lived in Hicksville, New York, for 58 years before moving to New Jersey to be closer to family. He is a proud father to Loretta, father-in-law to Randy, grandfather to James and Bill, and great-grandfather to Erica, Will, Matthew, Isabel, and Lily.

"We are so grateful for the opportunity to celebrate Michael’s 100th birthday,” said Stephen Dumke, LNHA, FACHE, President and CEO of Christian Health. “It’s a privilege to be part of his journey and to recognize this remarkable milestone alongside his family and loved ones."
