A Community for Every Need: A Resident Calls Christian Health "A Wonderful Place to Live"

A Community for Every Need: A Resident Calls Christian Health "A Wonderful Place to Live"

When Joyce Christie’s husband Don needed a little extra care after his stroke, they decided to leave their condominium in Wyckoff and relocate to Longview Assisted Living.

“We have a long history with Christian Health,” she said. “My grandfather and parents have all lived here. When it was time for us to move into a different home, we came to Longview.”

Joyce describes the team at Longview as welcoming and inviting from the very first day they arrived. “When we walked in, it was as if they put their arms around us and hugged us,” she said. “We felt so comfortable and had no problem adjusting.”

Longview’s warm environment and friendly team members provided the perfect home for Joyce and Don until he eventually needed further care. Fortunately, Christian Health’s continuum of care allowed the couple to relocate to new homes on the same campus while still staying near one another.

“We just liked Longview so much – loved it really,” she said. “He got wonderful care, but eventually he needed more.”

Don moved to Heritage Manor, our skilled nursing community, and Joyce moved into Evergreen Court, one of our several independent-living communities. Don was able to receive round-the-clock nursing care in his new home, and Joyce could easily visit as often as she liked.

“I was able to see him every day because I was right here on campus with him,” she said. “Everybody there was so wonderful. My husband couldn’t speak, but he understood. They couldn’t have been more welcoming. Everyone would say hello to him, and he’d put his thumb up.”

After Don passed away, Joyce remained at Evergreen Court until our premier continuing care retirement community, The Vista, opened its doors in June 2021. She had signed up for the waiting list for The Vista previously, and though she loved her home at Evergreen Court, she made the decision to relocate.

“The people at Evergreen Court were just lovely,” she said. “The Vista was just little larger and had more activities. I’m very happy I came here; it’s beautiful and the staff couldn’t be nicer.”

Joyce enjoys a busy social life at the vibrant community, participating regularly in exercise classes, taking bus trips, and attending shows at the Performing Arts Center. “You can always do something here,” she said. “You never have to be lonely – you can always keep busy. I can’t say enough positive things about it.”

The Vista is a life care community – which means residents have access to our extensive continuum of care services on campus should they one day need them, including assisted living, skilled nursing, and memory care. This availability of care and the opportunity to give her children peace of mind heavily influenced Joyce’s decision to move into The Vista.

“I have two children who do not live in the state,” she said. “They are very caring and visit often. They are so happy that I’m here because now they know if they can’t get to me right away, there’s someone here to care for me.”

Joyce describes her experience at every one of our communities as overwhelmingly positive, particularly emphasizing the friendly, compassionate nature of our team members.

“The staff is exceptional at every location,” she said. “They are so professional but also very warm and caring.” “The whole campus is just a wonderful place to live.”
