About Chun
Dr. Chun Tong, MD, is an ABPN board-certified psychiatrist specializing in general psychiatry and addiction psychiatry. With a compassionate, patient-centered approach and a commitment to holistic care, Dr. Tong helps individuals overcome substance use disorders and achieve lasting recovery while supporting their overall mental wellness.
Dr. Tong earned his medical degree from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School (formerly UMDNJ), where he also completed his psychiatry residency and served as Chief Resident. He went on to complete a fellowship in addiction psychiatry at Mount Sinai West/Morningside.
He has extensive experience treating a wide range of addiction-related conditions, including alcohol dependency, opioid use disorder, and co-occurring mental health disorders. In addition, Dr. Tong provides comprehensive psychiatric care for conditions such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. Using evidence-based treatments and individualized care plans, he works closely with patients to address the underlying causes of mental health and addiction challenges, empowering them to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.
Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Tong is actively involved in research, advocacy, and medical education. He serves as an active member and Co-Chair of the Membership Committee for the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP) and frequently presents at national conferences on addiction treatment and mental health topics. He also continues to provide education and didactic training for medical residents at Rutgers, Mount Sinai, and The Valley Hospital’s Internal Medicine Residency Program.
Outside of his professional work, Dr. Tong enjoys recording podcasts for the AAAP on topics related to addiction psychiatry and spending time video gaming.
