Why Choose Christian Health? Finding Community, Quality Care, and Peace of Mind

For Kevin McAuliffe, making the decision to move his mother to long-term care was difficult, but choosing the right community was not.
As a longtime paramedic in New Jersey, Kevin had spent years visiting health care communities across the state. When the time came to find a new home for his mother, JaneAnn, he already knew where he wanted her to be.
“Hands down, Christian Health was the place to be in my mind,” he said. “There was no question about it.”
For years after the death of Kevin's father in 2018, JaneAnn lived independently. But as time passed, her family saw signs that she needed more support.
“We began to notice a little decline and some wandering,” he said. “She was missing that personal interaction during the day. So, we decided it was time to do something about it.”
A Remarkable Transformation
After moving to Heritage Manor, Christian Health’s skilled nursing community, Kevin's 93-year-old mother is a new person.
“Since she’s been here, there’s been a noticeable improvement in her personality,” he said. “She’s brighter, she’s happy, she smiles. That wasn’t always the case before she came here.”
Her days are now filled with fun and engaging activities, friendships, and opportunities for self-care.
“There’s always something going on,” he said. “She’s doing arts and crafts, coloring, and getting her hair done. In all the years I’ve known her, she never got her nails done. It’s such a joy to see her pampering herself at this point in her life and something so simple making her so happy.”
She rarely even spends time alone in her room, which Kevin says is a return to her true self: energetic and full of life.
“She’s out and about, talking to people and doing things,” he said. “That’s the way she always was.”
The Difference Quality Care Makes
For years, JaneAnn struggled with high blood pressure despite repeated medical interventions and trying multiple medications.
“No matter where we took her, the doctors just couldn’t seem to get it under control,” he said. However, after moving into the community, her symptoms improved significantly, thanks to her new provider’s attentive approach.
“Her doctor was more attuned in listening to what I had to say,” said Kevin. “She believed me and understood the previous drugs weren’t working, so she tried a new combination of medications that got her symptoms under control for the first time in 20 years. I’m ever so thankful for that.”
Between the attentive care, communicative and compassionate team, and engaging community environment, Kevin and his family are impressed by and grateful for everything Heritage Manor has done for JaneAnn.
“Without Christian Health, I’m not sure she’d be here today,” he said. “She’s in the best hands in the world, and that matters to me. If I didn’t think the hands holding her here mattered and were capable, trust me, she wouldn’t be here. She’s home.”
