What does a typical day look like at Windmere? For Pat Barker, it’s the perfect blend of comfort, connection, and choice, where each day unfolds at her own pace, full of friendly faces and engaging activities in a community that truly feels like home.
Starting the Day Your Way
At Windmere, residents’ start their morning their way. Early risers can gather in the dining room for a full breakfast of eggs, pancakes, and other hearty favorites or head to a morning fitness class before beginning another great day in the community. Activities at Windmere begin as arly as 8 a.m., but because Pat prefers a relaxed morning, she sleeps in and enjoys a late breakfast of homemade oatmeal and coffee in the cozy Windmere resident kitchen.
Engaging Afternoons
By lunchtime, Pat heads to the dining room, where she shares meals with her neighbors in a friendly, communal space. Her favorites are classic comfort foods, such as a hamburger and French fries or pork chops with scalloped potatoes. She appreciates the dining experience not just for the food but also for the personalized, friendly service. “The wait staff get to know you and your preferences,” she said. Every resident birthday is also celebrated with ice cream, bringing a sense of joy and community to each day.
Pat’s afternoons at Windmere are filled with a diverse range of fun activities, games, entertainment, and social outings. She often signs up for local trips or enjoys the on-site events right at home, like live music or festive holiday parties.
Pat loves to paint (her apartment walls display the beautiful watercolor works she created) and particularly enjoys the creative classes Windmere offers. “There’s always something going on,” she said. And when she’s in the mood to relax, she heads to the cozy Great Room for weekend movies or meets with her book club to discuss different short stories each week.
A Quiet Sense of Home
After a busy day of activities, the community winds down for a relaxing evening. Residents gather to chat or play cards in the many different communal spaces, such as the homey living room, before heading to the dining room for a light supper.

Everybody says hello.” That sense of connection has made a meaningful difference in her life. “I feel really lucky to be here,” she said.
The everyday moments, such as shared meals, friendly greetings, and laughter, stand out most for Pat. “People say, ‘You’re always smiling. wWat are you smiling about?’ I say, “When I see people, I smile.’ I'm happy because we’re all together. It just feels like you're at home.”
