Douglas A. Struyk, CPA, LNHA, has received a 2025 NJBIZ Icon Honors Award and a 2025 New Jersey Hospital Association (NJHA) Best at the Beach Emeritus Prize, in recognition of his extraordinary leadership and decades-long commitment to advancing health care across New Jersey. In 2021, Struyk made history when he became NJHA’s first board chair who hailed from a post-acute care provider.
“I am truly honored and humbled to be selected for this recognition,” said Struyk. “I could not have imagined a more rewarding career than the 34 years spent at Christian Health. Our reputation for high-quality care is unparalleled, and I am so proud of our team.”
Struyk joined Christian Health in 1990 as Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer and became CEO in 1994. Under his leadership, the organization expanded significantly in both programming and physical footprint, helping to reshape mental health and senior care throughout New Jersey. He prioritized access to mental health services and was instrumental in securing funding, raising awareness, and reducing the stigma through Christian Health’s innovative programming.
Among his many accomplishments, Struyk oversaw the expansion of Christian Health’s Ramapo Ridge inpatient mental health hospital; launched its Haven program, New Jersey’s first women-only inpatient trauma-care initiative; introduced new outpatient services, including partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs; and opened Southgate, a behavior-management community for individuals with complex needs.
Struyk was nominated for the NJBIZ Icon Honors and the NJHA Best at the Beach award by Stephen J. Dumke, current President and CEO of Christian Health.
“Doug’s legacy is one of vision, compassion, and unwavering purpose,” said Dumke. “He built a foundation that continues to shape our organization today. His foresight and commitment to high-quality and compassionate care have touched countless lives, and I can’t think of anyone more deserving of these honors.”
Struyk and his fellow 2025 NJBIZ Icon Honors award recipients were recognized Tuesday, May 20, at The Marigold in Somerset. NJHA’s 2025 Best at the Beach, a seaside celebration of the state’s healthcare community, was held June 26 at Ocean Place Resort and Spa in Long Branch.
